Gretna (4-1) versus Bellevue West (3-3)
In a game where both teams are ranked and the game would be decided on defense, not offense, unlike the game a year ago.
Bellevue West moved the ball very efficiently on its first drive with Isaiah McMorris scoring on a 19-yard touchdown catch. Gretna would move the ball against Bellevue West, but the drive would stall and punted. On the second drive for West would drive into Gretna territory, but a 21-yard field goal would be no good.
The teams would trade punts. Until Gretna’s Isaiah Weber rambles into the end zone. Score tied 7 a piece. It would stay tied going into half time. Out of half time, both teams traded punts. That was until Gretna quarterback Alex Wilcoxsin found receiver Alex Runge for a 47-yard touchdown. Gretna took the lead even though the Point After Attempt was blocked 13-7. The game would stay that way with just under 7 minutes to play Bellevue West senior #44 Aden Morris had a freak injury and left on stretcher. Prayers out to him. Football is a very violent game, and even though you hate to see freak injuries happen, they do happen, unfortunately. Bellevue West backed up on its own 4 yard line converted a 4th down and 15 to keep the drive alive. A few plays later, Daniel Kaelin found McMorris again for a 31-yard touchdown, and the PAT was successful, West 14-13. A quick defensive stand gave the ball back to West, which would hold onto and ended the game.
