The Comeback: How One Drive to North Bend Reminded Me Why I Started

@nebraskatok

Sports have the power to change lives. 🏈🙌 A few years back, I created highlight reels and hype content for a standout athlete from North Bend High School—Brodey Johnson. That spark helped him get a little extra exposure. Brodey is now competing at the college level and I can’t wait to watch him play this season. Fast forward to now—his dad, Brandon Johnson, who volunteers as a youth football coach, called me up and asked, “Do you still work at Dick’s?” I told him I sure do. He and Brodey thanked me for helping get Brodey exposure early on. Then Brandon said he wanted to return the favor—by purchasing all the youth football equipment for his league through our store. All the gear came in, and I made the 1 hour and 30 minute drive to North Bend to personally deliver it on their first day of practice—and talk to the boys. That drive back home felt more than worth it. This is what it’s all about. I’m proud to work at Dick’s Sporting Goods, and proud of the impact I’ve made through NebraskaTok. Moments like these remind me that a little hype, a little heart, and a little help… can go a long way. 💪🏽 NebraskaTok is back and will be delivering HYPE for Nebraska High School Sports. Watch for highlights, Recaps, and predictions. Coming Soon. #SportsChangeLives #NebraskaTok #DSG #GiveBack #NorthBendPride

Sports have the power to change lives.
That’s not just a saying—it’s something I’ve seen firsthand. And this story? It brought everything full circle.

A few years ago, I was just starting to create highlight reels and hype content for Nebraska high school athletes. One of those athletes was Brodey Johnson—a standout from North Bend High School. I saw the potential, the work ethic, the spark… and I wanted to give him a little extra exposure. Fast forward to today, Brodey is now suiting up and competing at the college level. And I couldn’t be prouder to watch him chase down his dreams on Saturdays.

But the story didn’t stop there.

Not long ago, I got a call from Brodey’s dad, Brandon Johnson, who also happens to be a volunteer youth football coach in North Bend. His question:

“Hey, do you still work at Dick’s?”
I smiled and said, “Absolutely.”

Brandon thanked me—on behalf of himself and Brodey—for helping bring some attention to Brodey early in his journey. Then he said something that really hit me:

“I want to return the favor.”

He placed a full order of football gear for his entire youth team through our store.

All the equipment came in. And I loaded up and made the 1 hour and 30 minute drive to North Bend. Not just to drop off gear—but to show up for those young athletes on their very first day of practice. I got to speak with them, fire them up, and remind them what football—and community—is all about.

That drive home? It wasn’t just miles on a highway. It was a reminder of purpose.

A New Season, A New Chapter

Moments like these are why I started NebraskaTok. A little hype, a little heart, and a little help… can go a long way. Whether it’s getting a player on the radar, getting equipment in kids’ hands, or getting a team fired up—this is what it’s all about.

And now—I’m making my comeback.
Fall 2025 is here.
NebraskaTok is BACK.
Let’s make this the biggest season yet.

Let’s get fired up. Let’s make an impact. Let’s GO. 💪🏽🏈🔥
