Here’s a look at the Top 10 Preseason Rankings for Class B.

Class B Preseason Top 10

  1. Elkhorn North
  2. Gretna East
  3. Gretna
  4. Bennington
  5. Omaha Skutt
  6. Waverly
  7. Seward
  8. Scottsbluff
  9. Grand Island Northwest
  10. Lincoln Pius X

Preseason #1: Elkhorn North Wolves

Elkhorn North has made steady progress since its football program began, reaching the playoffs each of the past three seasons. Unfortunately, their runs have ended in the semifinals the last two years — both times falling to Bennington. Now, heading into 2025, there are only two goals left for the Wolves: get to Lincoln and win the whole thing.

And if there’s a year to do it, this might be the one.

What We Like About Elkhorn North:

  • Senior QB Ethan Beachy: The Wolves return a proven leader under center with the arm and composure to lead a title run.
  • Elite Defense: Headlined by Husker commit Jase Reynolds and Iowa State pledge Barry Fries at linebacker. Add in junior LB Ian Christo, and you’ve got one of the best LB groups Class B has ever seen.
  • Playmakers Everywhere: Speedy skill guys like Alex Uchtman can change a game in a single play. Young talents like Zach Wolfe (6’4 TE, 2027) and Drew Meyer (Super State freshman in 2024) are primed to break out.
  • Strong Trenches: While the Wolves need to replace a few names up front, juniors Ian Anderson (250 lbs) and Parker Brown (260 lbs) should fill in nicely.

Key Games to Watch

  • Week 4 vs Gretna: A midseason measuring stick.
  • End of Season Stretch: Omaha Skutt, Gretna East, and Bennington in consecutive weeks. Last year, Elkhorn North won three of those matchups, but the Badgers have been their ultimate roadblock.

If the Wolves can stay healthy through that gauntlet, Coach Stanley’s squad has all the ingredients to finally bring home a championship trophy in November.

Why Class B Will Be Fun in 2025

Behind Elkhorn North, there’s no shortage of challengers. Gretna East continues to rise quickly, Gretna remains a powerhouse, and Bennington is still the team no one wants to see in the playoffs. Add in programs like Skutt, Waverly, and Seward, and Class B has no shortage of depth.

The race to Lincoln is wide open — and it’s going to be a fun ride all season long.
